Pruning
In early winter, prune out any weak, damaged, diseased or crossing stems. Also remove branches too close to the ground.
Prune into a goblet shape to allow light and air movement through the center of the plant.
On a mature plant, rejuvenate the plant by pruning out older branches at the base periodically so younger branches can take their place.
In the summer, prune to control the size and structure of the plant.
